When you come in for your Rhinoplasty consult, we usually have you fill out some paperwork and the process can be found here. Once this is done, we usually have you meet with our patient care coordinator. They will go over the initial consultation.

For Rhinoplasty, it helps to have computer imaging. We use a program called United Imaging. This program helps us morph your pictures to get an idea of what you are interested in. We can shape the pictures of your nose to almost any form and through this we can find out what your goals are. These images help us during the procedure. Dr Young actually brings these pictures into the procedure room and uses them to try to achieve the goals as much as possible. Although, these pictures are the absolute ideal and dont guarantee the outcome, Dr Young, takes his time and works very hard to try to achieve those results as much as possible. Dr Young is very detailed oriented with his Rhinoplasties. You will learn that he is not the fastest surgeon in the world. Some surgeons pride themselves on being fast. Dr Young prides himself on the results and not the time it takes him to perform the procedure.

Typically, Dr Young prefers doing his procedures in an open fashion. What that means is that Dr Young likes to make a tiny incision at the base of the nose. Specifically, the incision is in between the nostrils in that column of tissue. This is used to essentially expose all of the elements of the nose in an open fashion. He feels that this allows the Rhinoplasty Surgeon the ability to more acurately determine what needs to be done and also the facility to carry out those specific maneuvers. He pays extra attention in closing this incision. Here is an example of the incision (shown in green arrows) at 3 weeks after his procedure in between the nostrils:

Over the years, Rhinoplasty has changed from using techniques that entaiil cutting the cartilage of the nasal tip, morselizing, cross hatching, and tip grafts to non destructive techniques with the use of sutures. Dr Young constantly improves his technique and routinely researches the literature for new ideas to further his knowledge on the procedures that he does. He firmly believes in non destructive techniques and the open approach. Here is a video explaining the open approach during a live demonstration. This next video shows one of our approaches through Rhinoplasty of augmenting the nasal bridge. We also show a different technique of narrowing the nasal base, or the area around the nostrils. For some people, the area around the nostrils can be wider than they desire. I discuss in this video the more common way of making an incision on the side of the nose to excise a portion of the nostril margin to narrow the nose. This technique is useful in the situation where the area around the nostril (or Alae) is flaring more than 2mm from the point where it attaches. Also another technique of narrowing the nose is to excise a portion of the nostril sill inside. This approach is indicated when the nostrils are larger. For this particular person, her nostrils were not particularly large and the Alae did not flare more than 2 mms from the attachment. Hence, we show the cinching method to narrow the nostril base through a unique technique of suturing the nasal base more closely together.
