Purpose Statement

Our Purpose; Striving for Perfection:

Dr. Young strives for one goal in mind: the perfection of his art and skill to improve the lives of his patients. Based on certain life changing events, Dr. Young acquired significant experience that has allowed him to appreciate the doctor and patient relationship more from the patient perspective. Understanding what the patient thoughts on what they need is one of the most important things a facial plastic surgeon can accomplish. Dr. Young's main objectives when approaching patient care are based on this idea.

Dr. Young completed his residency training in head and neck surgery where he worked with many famous plastic surgeons from Beverly Hills. From there he was chosen to do further training in a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship with world renowned Fred Stucker in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dr. Stucker is one of the "grand masters" in facial plastic surgery. He was one of the founding members of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The Face to Face foundation which treats women who have suffered from domestic violence across the globe was founded by him. The fellowship under Dr. Stucker focused on plastic surgery only in the face and neck area. This is essential because it allows a surgeon to concentrate on a specific area, the Face and Neck. Our approach is to maximize our understanding of this limited area and avoid being distracted by the rest of the body, in terms of a plastic and reconstructive surgery perspective. While there, Dr. Young learned about cutting-edge technology and skills in facial cosmetic, craniofacial (cleft lip/palate, congenital), head and neck trauma, and facial skeletal contouring surgery.

In facial plastic surgery, more than half of the challenge is understanding what goals you are striving to accomplish. The understanding of what makes a face more aesthetically pleasing is perhaps the ultimate goal. Theories on facial beauty contribute to this insight. However, to this day, we are still using the theories that were developed during the times of the Greeks. Although modified by Leonardo Da Vinci and the artists during the Renaissannce, there has been no significant change in these theories for almost 600 years. Recently, Dr. Young received the 2005 Sir Harold Delf Gillies Award ( http://www.aafprs.org/physician/awards_grants/awards.html) from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for his new theory on facial beauty. It represents a completely new way at looking at the face. The difference with this theory is that it places the highest priority on the observer's perspective. Previous theories were based on external landmarks that were not significant in terms of grabbing a person's attention (you can read more about this theory within this web page.) This new theory concentrates on what an observer actually finds important on a face. In short, the surgeon's correct understanding of what makes a face beautiful or not and his ability to be able to achieve those changes is absolutely vital in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Young believes he holds the key to this understanding with his new theory that will shape the thinking of plastic surgeons for the future.

Based on this our center has the following goals:

  1. To understand the needs of the patient based on their own words and thoughts.
  2. To help patients completely understand their unique aging process and their individual stage within the aging phenomenon and how medical and surgical elements can help in its reversal.
  3. To continue to strive to learn all about the latest ideas, techniques, and literature that can be utilized to improve our patients well being.
  4. To continue to further the scientific understanding of facial beauty through our own contributions to the scientific literature and to be able to apply these findings to improve our own patients quality of life.
  5. To help the patients through the entire process from the initial consultation to the complete satisfaction of the patient. This shall include from the preoperative preparation and postoperative care to the life long follow-up through touch-ups, skin care and additional spa treatments.
  6. To strive to clarify all questions that the patient has in every possible way.
  7. To obtain the best medical and surgical results that can be attained in the world.
  8. To ensure the most comfortable experience through this process that any center can offer.
  9. To continue to open our minds to new ideas on improving our approach to reach the highest quality of care for our patients.
  10. To understand each patients needs and to offer from the least invasive to the most invasive procedure, which can allow us to reach those goals. This includes offering options of minimally invasive techniques and non surgical techniques to reach these desired goals.
  11. To formulate for each patient a unique proposal to reach these goals employing computer imaging and thorough revisiting of the literature for each issue a particular patient possesses.
