We are going to discuss our Scientific Approach for Scientific Skin Care Management here for you.  If you are interested at anytime about scheduling an appointment you can email or call (425-990-3223 Office). Click here if you would like to find out more about our consultation process. If you live out of town, we can set up a phone consultation for you and show you how to take the 5 basic photos you will need. For more information on preparing for your procedure we have an informative Plastic Surgery Patient Care Page and Wound Care and Scar Prevention Page.

This is our current beginners skin care regime instructions:

  1. In terms of the at home glycolic peels you only want to start that on Sunday night once a week. Basically put it on and take it off immediately when you first start using at home chemical peels. You can then increase it by the number of times of week and how long you keep it on your skin. Just be careful not to burn yourself and cause scarring. If in doubt, just put it on and take it off immediately. Don't put any skin products on after the chemical peel. Start these peels first and then add on Retin A and then the Glycolic Cream 10% respectively & slowly as tolerated. Here is a video on doing the At Home Chemical Peels.
  2. Start the Retin A on Wednesday night and only do that once a week as well. You can increase that as tolerated and for each of the products you never want to put it on if you are ever red or irritated. Retin A can make you sensitive to sunlight so it should only be applied during the nighttime.
  3. For the Glycolic Cream 10% or the Rebrightalyze Kit, do this once a week for starters and do it on fridays. You can increase that as tolerated but you never want to put it on if you are ever red or irritated.

We are currently carrying the following ten products with our Aesthetic Facial Body Plastic Surgery Brand:

  3. Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x with Caffeine, Green Tea Polyphenols, and Hyaluronic Acid (HA's ).
  4. Glycolic 10% Facial Cream with Liposomal Vitamins A-C-E-, Co-Q10, Squalene, and Green Tea Extracts (that fight glycated end products).

For patients dealing with severe acne we recommend:

The Scientific Skin Care Regime and the use of the Gly Sal 10/2% Cleanser is an option. You can read more here for our Acne Skin Care Regime

Skin Care Directions : All of these products are used morning and  night as tolerated except for the sunscreen, and Retinol which are used at nightFor most patients they will need to start slow with these products and use as tolerated, using the Repair and Prevent products a few times a week based the level of irritation of their skin.

If you are going to get a co2 laser treatment you can also be on Skin Lightener's containing any or all of these ingredients- Kojic Acid, Azelaic Acid, Mequinol 2% [solag],  etc.

Main products for CO2 Laser Resurfacing surgery:

  1. Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x
  2. Rebrightalyze Enhancement Therapy Kit
  3. Dr. Young may also add in other treatments such as At home Glycolic Peels, Clindamycin Gel, and oral antibotics – Click here for more details: Acne Skin Care Management.
  4. Our Gly-Sal 10%/2% Cleanser for patients still dealing with breakouts.
  5. Some patients may need to add  in a hydrocortisone 1% to help with inflammation

Please read about these topical medications on rxlist.com to see if there are any reasons you should not be taking these medications. You can also read more about these Acne Skin Care Topical Medications here.

Special Instructions for the Repair and Prevent Products Above:

To best see how you will react to Our Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x Apply one application of Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x (These are all retinoic acid derivatives) wait  3-5 days or until all of the redness goes away before you apply the next application. (Doing a test patch in a small area may be the best way to start. You should wait for 3-5 days for the test patch to reveal a reaction.) Keep doing this until you can tolerate our Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x on a nightly basis.

Once tolerating the Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x nightly you can then start the Rebrightalyze Enhancement Therapy Kit and do the same process. You should wait 3-5 days for all of the redness to subside before applying the next application of the Rebrightalyze Enhancement Therapy Kit just as you did with Our Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x. This approach should be done until you can tolerate both of the medications.

Hydrocortisone 1 % can be started with either the Our Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x or the Rebrightalyze Enhancement Therapy Kit. The hydrocortisone can help decrease the inflammation that is caused by the other two topical applications.

For Laser Patients:

If you are having an Active FX laser procedure, these topical medications should be started 2-6 weeks before your laser procedure and stopped 1 week before your procedure. These medications should be restarted no earlier than 4 weeks after your laser procedure but you should check with your Doctor first before doing so. If you are doing IPL these medications can also be started 3-4 weeks before your first procedure and then stopped 7 days before your treatments or next treatment. You can resume the Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x and the Rebrightalyze Enhancement Therapy Kit 7 days after your IPL. Click here for more instructions: CO2 Laser Resurfacing Preparation.

If you are just going to use these topical medications without a procedure, you should use the same approach. Which may mean that you are going to be using Our Gly-Sal 10%/2% cleanser or other cleansers above, Our Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x, and the At Home Glycolic Peels for starters then add Our Rebrightalyze Enhancement Therapy Kit or the Glycolic 10% Facial Cream as needed. Some people will only be able to tolerate these medications once or twice a week. Everyone is different and you will find out, on your own, how much you tolerate these topical medications. It may be that you tolerate it every other day, every three days, or once a week, etc. While you are starting your topical medication you can call or email your Doctor and / or his staff to help you through this.

At Home Glycolic Acid Peels Instructions:

  1. Cleanse area with mild cleaner/soap
  2. Initially you want to apply the glycolic peel on and take it off immediately by rinsing with water
  3. Later you'll set the timer for 5, 10, 15, 30 secs slowly as tolerated
  4. Apply glycolic acid pads to skin. Note: if burning too badly, shower off immediately
  5. Flush thoroughly with clean, cold water after 30 secs
  6. Increase frequency from: once per week, to twice per week, to three times per week, as tolerated
  7. Increase duration of application from 1-2, 5, 10, 15, 30 secs to 1min, to 2 min, to 3 min, to 4 min, 5 min, as tolerated

The above are some general recommendations for the at-home glycolic peels. You should be very conservative when you first start doing these. You should never apply these glycolic peels when your skin is significantly inflamed. If you are trying to treat active acne, the inflammation should be limited to just those inflamed and infected pimples. If in doubt, you should consult your doctor here.

Application of Clindamycin Gel:

We suggest using the Clindamycin Gel only when you have active inflammation / infections of your pores. When this is present, we also suggest only spot applications to the infected pore. If you have any questions, please call or e-mail us.

Oral Antibiotics:

Your doctor may also want to prescribe you oral antibiotics as well in the situation where your acne is really severe. Of the choices, your doctor may prescribe you tetracycline, minocycline, doxycycline, erythromycin, or clindamycin.
