As we age, our lips lose their pretty pout. Lip augmentation in our Seattle / Bellevue office can restore lost volume and plump up lips that have thinned from aging. When done with accuracy, this procedure can lead to amazing rejuvenate effects. There are many options for lip augmentation. Temporary Lip Injection Options include mainly fillers. Restylane, Juvederm are the main products for lip filling. These are made out of Hyaluronic Acid and everything injected is natural and is broken down into natural end products like carbond dioxide and water. The effects last about 6 months to a year. Although in the lips, the longevity has been found to be not as long. The reason is thought to be the large activity that occurs in the lip and perioral, around the mouth area. This is one of the main reasons that Permanent Lip Augmentation options are being sought after more and more.
Permanent Lip Augmentation Options:
There are many options to consider and you can find the links above and below: One of the more common options are Permalip Silicone Implants for the lips. These solid lip implants are placed through tiny incisions at the corners of the lip. These incisions heal imperceptibly. There recovery is pretty fast compared to other permanent options. The drawback is that some people don't like the way they feel and also the idea of having an artificial lip implant in the lips. Another option is the Lip Augmentation via VY advancement. This is done by advancing the inside of the lips forward to give more volume in the red area. The recovery for this is rather long. Instead of 7 days for the Perma lip Implants, the VY advancement can take weeks. The benefit is that it is natural and one of the ways you can really make the lips a lot bigger. Fat Transfer to the Lips is the 3rd option. This technique entails taking from fat from somewhere in the body and injecting the fat into the lips. The usual areas that you take fat is from the abdomen, thighs, butt or waist hip areas. Many people feel that fat injections don't do well in the lips and this has been true. The recovery is also rather long. Click here to see a Healing Diary of Fat Injections to the Lips. We have a technique to make fat last in the lips for a more permanent affect. Various Lip Lifts can also enhance your lips depending on how you do them. A buffalo lip lift done through an incision all the way across the bottom of the nose can lift the upper lips and create more volume. Vermillion lip lifts done around the lips at the junction of the red and white lips can also create some volume. The corner lip lift can be used to elevate the corners of the lips. All of these lips have the draw back of creating an incision on the outside and the risk and unwanted scarring on the face and portions of the face that are visible.

How our Beauty Theory Ties in with Lip Fillers & Augmentation:
Importantly, there are many times when lip augmentation can leave a person looking unnatural as seen in many Hollywood stars. This led Dr. Young to find out why. His journey culminated into his theory, Circles of Prominence, which explains how the lips should look in order to be aesthetically ideal. Awarded the Sir Harold Delf Gillies Award, Dr. Young's knowledge of aesthetics and his technical expertise help him create the ideal lips for his Seattle | Bellevue patients. Using either injectable dermal fillers, such as Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvederm®; body fat; or an implant, Dr. Young helps patients achieve the natural, beautiful results they desire.
We are constantly researching for the answers to facial beauty. In a recent study that we did, we proved that the upper lips should be 1/2 an iris width in height and the lower lips should be 1 iris width in height. You can read more about this study here: New Theory on Facial Beauty: The Circles of Prominence Key Shapes and Distances in the Face.
Here is a recent testimonial we received on 12/28/10:
