Scheduling & Timing Your Pre-Procedure Appointment

After you have decided to schedule a procedure, we will set up a Pre-Procedure Appointment for you at least 2 weeks before your procedure. The 2-week time point is chosen to allow you to stay off blood thinners for 2 weeks before and after your procedure. You can find out more about medications and blood thinners to avoid for plastic surgery.

What to Expect at Your Pre-Procedure Appointment

During your Pre-Procedure Appointment, we will go over your procedure in more detail and make sure that all of your questions are answered. Your medical history will be reviewed to ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo the procedure. Any required medical clearances from your primary care doctor or other specialists will be discussed and requested at this time. If you are having a fat transfer procedure, you may be asked to see another physician to rule out the presence of hernias. We will also review your consent forms with you and have you sign them.

Imaging, Photos & Surgical Planning

We may take additional photos during this appointment. Any imaging or computer morphing can also be completed at this time. These images will be reviewed again on the day of your procedure to ensure your goals and expectations are clearly understood.

Anesthesia & Caretaker Planning

If you are having oral or intravenous sedation, you will need a caretaker with you for at least 24 hours after your procedure. This is an important part of your safety, and we will review this requirement with you in detail. We have a caretaker consent form that your caretaker will need to sign. If you do not have someone available, we can help connect you with resources and assist in coordinating care.

Pre-Procedure Fasting & Hydration Guidelines

If you are receiving oral or IV sedation, it is important that you do not eat or drink anything (including water) for 6 hours before your procedure. We will emphasize this during your Pre-Procedure Appointment. We also stress the importance of drinking 64 ounces of fluids (preferably with electrolytes, such as Gatorade—not just water) up until the time you must stop eating and drinking. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in cancellation of your procedure for your safety.

Your Care Team & Ongoing Support

During this appointment, you may also meet with our nurse and medical assistant in addition to the doctor. Their role is to support your Pre-Procedure Appointment and provide continuity of care before, during, and after your procedure. They are a valuable resource and can answer many of your questions. We also recommend reviewing your Patient Care materials in advance. During your visit, we will go over your consents, medical history, and physical exam, and begin coordinating any necessary medical risk assessments or additional evaluations.

Full payment is typically collected at this 2-week appointment, so please come prepared. You will also be prescribed any medications needed for your procedure. Follow-up appointments can be scheduled at this time or on the day of your procedure for your convenience.
