What Causes Facial Wrinkles?

Facial wrinkles are not too hard to define. They are the extra skin in your face that leads to extra folds of skin that we call wrinkles. What causes them is due mostly to a volume loss, like how a grape changes to a raisin. The general movement of the soft tissues of the face is an inward and downward movement. Because the surface area of the skin remains mostly unchanged, you get a relative increase in the ratio of the surface area of the skin to the total volume of the face. This leads to extra skin in the face, which manifests as wrinkles. Wrinkles detract from the smooth quality that is found in the younger face. So you look older with wrinkles.

Facelift and Traditional Treatment Options

Facelifts have been one main option to pull the skin back to decrease the amount of extra skin. Laser resurfacing has been another option in the past as well. The laser can shrink the skin.

Some have found that the skin generally decreases in surface area by about 1 square centimeter in the cheek. The laser has been found to shrink the tissues of the skin through readjusting the collagen fibers and causes them to contract.

Limitations of Certain Approaches

Fat injections have been tried, but results have shown some issues with the technique. Many worry that fat injections will also make the face look fat, which, in general, is not something that people want to do. Most people want to make the face thinner, sleeker, aker, and more contoured. Mid-facelifts can be used, but only address the cheek area and don’t really remove a lot of skin or fill it up. Fillers are a consideration to fill in the wrinkles. However, given the amount that is needed for the whole face, you may have to limit the amount you use, and also, therefore, limit the results you get. Botox® | Dysport® have been used to prevent the muscles from moving to keep them from making wrinkles. But this lasts only 3-4 months and requires constant maintenance that can be expensive.

A More Comprehensive Approach to Facial Rejuvenation

The YoungVitalizer is a unique technique that treats many areas of the face, including the wrinkle that we are discussing right now. Dr. Philip Young developed this Breakthrough Incision Less Face Lift Technique that can fill the facial wrinkles, and yet, through his theory on facial beauty, we can avoid making the face look fat.

We mentioned earlier that you may not know that the face undergoes an inward movement of the tissues. This is important in understanding how the face ages. So with age, the general movement of your tissues is an inward and downward vector.

To correctly reverse aging, moving the face in an outward and upward movement can create a more natural rejuvenation. The YoungVitalizer incorporates Dr. Young’s theory on facial beauty, creates this movement, and presents the vital parts of your face to bring out the natural beauty in your face without making you look fat.
